What is the center's philosophy and do I
agree with it? (Please see our links page for links to several famous
philosophies.)
Will the center be conscious of and respectful toward any
special dietary needs my child has (vegetarian, kosher, allergies, etc.)?
Does the center have a mandatory naptime, and if so how
long is each child required to lie down for?
Are books, blocks, an art table/center, and a water or sand
box ready available to the children?
How long has the center been in business? Does it have a
clean record?
What is the schedule of a typical day? Is there a good balance
of active periods and quiet times? Are extracurricular activites offered,
such as music and sports?
How do teachers at the facility discipline and comfort the
children?
Are random parental visits or observations welcome?
Is a safe outdoor play area available? Is there a fence
around it?
Do the staff and children at the facility seem happy to
be there? Are parents who currently send their children there satisfied?
What do they like least and most about the center?
If the answers to all of these
questions are positive, and they follow all of the NAEYC regulations, you
have found an excellent daycare for your child!
